2022 (I): A Half-Year of Unemployment/Leisure

On July 1, I completed five years of freedom from the corporate world. They have been five fantastic years where I have been able to live my life pretty much entirely on my terms. I wrote a bestselling nonfiction book (published by the world’s largest publishing house) and a few…

2020: A Year of Bigness

Professionally, I found…

An Insight into a Sighting

The group had split into two when the alarm came from the guide. I left the peloton, which included two feisty elderly ladies who could not — would not — be hurried by anything, even rapidly descending dusk, and raced around the bend in the path. I saw the guide…

2019: The Greatest Hits of My Greatest Year Yet

Read about how this story began in July 2017 and continued through 2018. TL;DR: 1. I became a working artist in control of my own time. 2. I shot for my first feature film with R. Madhavan. I wrote two children’s books. I narrated three Audible audiobooks. I signed on as onscreen…

Flip/Flops/Heels/Hills

Note to self: Flip-flops bad choice for hike. Especially in Hampi, whose landscape is a toss-up between smooth misshapen boulders and intricately-carved 500-year-old ruins. A trait that makes it attractive to sensibly-heeled enthusiasts of bouldering, archaeology, and heritage. We are enthusiastic. Not sensibly-heeled. A dubious combination on the bald rocks…

Morse Light

The light on the parked jeep blinks On/Off Light/Glass It catches my attention in the early blue dawn. I hear it click rhythmic. The light matches the clock Tick/Tock Click/Clock If this jeep were parked on a hillside at night then I would watch its Morse Light from across the lake. Like in the mystery books I read when I was ten. And then the blinks stop but not the clicks. I shudder and hope all is well on the hill.
